About Media Dissent
Mission
We aim to make the world a better place by distributing knowledge and inspiring people to take action. We do this through Literature, Music and Artwork, as well as providing resources for communication and creation.
History
This website was launched in 2000 and went under the name Green Chaos for the first seven years.
We started in the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California. Living in a small forest town helped established our DIY (Do It Yourself) ethic and taught us that where you live is only as good as you make it. We bought a press to manufacture our own buttons, started organizing shows and releasing albums for bands internationaly. We became more and more politicized as time went on.
In 2004 we moved to Santa Ana, Orange County to start a cooperative house with Deadpan Distro. Around this time we developed a better class conscienceness and began working closer with the community.
Two years later we moved up to the Bay Area and rented our first warehouse in Oakland. We bought a six color screen printing press and now manufacture shirts, patches, stickers, posters and more.
We used this new more serious phaze as an excuse to change the name to Media Dissent, because our politics have matured so much from when we started in 2000.
